Green Leaf Brewing Co. – Animal Farm IPA Review
Fresh from the Lonsdale Quay comes the Anarchistic Animal Farm IPA. This Belgian styled IPA is bottle conditioned like all of Green leaf’s bottled beers and pours from the bomber bottle a very cloudy chestnut brown colour topped with three fingers of slow to settle head. The beer smells strong with Belgian style yeast, caramel sweetness and a citrus-hop bitterness. It could be argued that even some tropical fruit tones come through on the nose. For the flavour the Animal Farm IPA starts things off with a Belgian kick. The yeast tones give an almost wheaty flavour before a semi-sweet, hop bitterness builds in the background. The hops do not take over but rather make for a balanced approach to a fairly robust and flavourful IPA. Fruit tones and citrus notes parallel the hop bitterness and light caramelized sweetness. This is a delicious Belgian styled, west coast IPA that will surely become a staple of Green leaf’s beer rotation!
