Three Ranges Brewing – Swamp Donkey Brown Ale
The Three Ranges Brewing Swamp Donkey Brown ale is a tribute to the Moose. Named after the second largest North American land animal the Swamp Donkey has some big shoes to fill. Pouring from the can a dark chestnut-brown colour that lets a slight amount of light through its dark but transparent body. The beer is topped with two fingers of head that leaves light lacing on the glass’ sides. Through this medium-thick head domes strong toasted malt notes along side caramel and chocolate notes. From the smell this beer would appear to be stronger than the modest 4.8% rating. The flavour is well carbonated with chocolate tones right up front. With caramel and chocolate malts playing main stage, a slight hop comes in near the finish. Despite the full bodied aroma the texture of this beer is rather thin and light. Overall the Swamp Donkey Brown Ale has great flavour in a light and relatively thin package.
