Yukon Brewing Co. – Midnight Sun Espresso Stout Review
British Columbia’s neighbours to the north are like an older sibling that moved just far enough to not be bothered by family. While they may be out of an arms reach they still are close and that is why the Midnight Sun Espresso Stout is here from the Yukon’s one and only craft brewery. This Espresso Stout is brewed with locally roasted coffee from the Midnight Sun Coffee Roasters. This fact may seem insignificant but if you have ever visited the area you will understand how community plays into everything the people from Whitehorse do. The beer itself comes in 6-packs and pours black in colour topped with two and a half fingers of thick, fluffy, off-white and lacing head. Through this head comes a strong scent of espresso in a bitter and bold aroma. There is a slight chocolate scent along side but the primary staple here is espresso. The flavour starts off with a malted initial hit before a rising explosion of coffee flavour. The bitter espresso tones take charge and elevate with every passing second. There is not much room for anything else except for a touch of chocolate before a dry and coffee-bittered finish. If you are a coffee buff then this just may be the beer for you. The Yukon may be a little beyond the usual reaches of craft beer but give the brewing team at the Yukon Brewing Company a chance and they may just win you over.
