Cariboo Brewing Co. – Root Beer Review
In the few BC based breweries tending to the needs of the non-beer drinker, Cariboo Brewing has come out with a Root Beer offering rated at 0.5% alcohol. This childhood favorite soda style pours as expected with a bubbly carbonation or head which settles extremely quickly as the root beer does not contain the protein content that an alcoholic relative does. The Cariboo Root Beer smells not-dissimilar to a traditional style but has a slightly more earthy and lightly more spiced aroma. While the A&W family favorite version may be sweet and light this has a touch more depth to it. The smell notes transfer through to the taste as well. Compared to a mass-produced root beer this offering from Cariboo has slightly less sweetness and carbonation with a light hit of spice in the flavour. The Craft Beer – Near Beer can be categorized as playing at the heartstrings of the kid trapped in an adult’s body. This is everything you loved as a kid with a little bit of extra, tempting your more mature palate.

Cariboo Root Beer is a tribute to a historical North American favorite that is typically low in alcohol, our delicious take is point five percent. Straight out of our German Brewmaster’s recipe book and made with our signature pure spring water, this is a tasty throwback. There are hundreds of brands of root beer, but none compare to the Boo. This fine BC product will also support our reforestation program as we strive for A Million Trees By 2020 one case and one tree at a time.
Tasting Notes
A smooth and creamy taste that’s perfect for the big game – when you are the designated driver and making memories that last. Cola colored, light sassafras on the palate and fully thirst quenching. This Root Boo is ideal for delicious ice cream floats, sunny days or Sunday drives, in fact it taste so good you will wish you could buy it on draft!
I want to know what form of sugar is the sweetener in this root beer. I’m trying to avoid HFCs and xylitolor, sorbitol, sucralose or any other artificial sweeteners. Thanks
It’s a brewed root beer so it needs sugar for the yeast to form the carbonation
