Driftwood Brewing Co. – Lustrum Wild Sour Anniversary Ale Review
The Lustrun Wild Sour Anniversary Ale is Driftwood Brewery’s way of celebrating their 5th year of brewing beer in Victoria BC. This Very dark, blood-red coloured beer pours with 3 fingers of thick and lacing head, bubbling up in a cherry coloured, loosely packed head. Through this head comes a pungent sour smell with notes of wild cherry, black current and malt. This sour beer’s flavour is sharp and sour but the black current has some mild bitter tones that balance out the whole ordeal. The sharpness is present but is balanced with a light hop bitterness, current bitter-sweet and a very dry finish. Overall this is not bad. The Lustrum is still quite intense and on the big side for a sour but it does not come across as sharp or over-the-top as some other comparably rated sours. The alcohol rating is also quite high at 9.4% but the flavour does not represent this hyperbolic number. If you are looking for a big sour without the over-the-top pucker, give this a try and you may be a sour-convert!
