A Fantastic Time and Place for Beer – The 2013 BC Beer Awards in Photos
The most anticipated event of the year for BC craft Beer fans has come. The 2013 BC Beer Awards event was held this year at the Croatian Cultural Center in East Vancouver. Using this larger facility, the fourth annual event was bigger and better than ever with more than 300 unique and delicious beers in contention to win across 17 different categories. From stouts to IPAs, fruit beer to saisons the best breweries in BC came out with their pride and joy with the hopes of taking home some hardware.
With so many new breweries opening their doors during 2013 it was fantastic to see a few of their names printed on the award tap handles. Deep Cove Brewery took home a gold medal for their Quick Wit wheat ale while Four Winds took third spot for their Wild Flower Saison and an honorable mention for their Pilsner. The Sunshine Coast based Persephone brewery came out of the gates on fire with their Stout-Off Stout being marked number 1. Lastly the Kelowna based Big Surf Brewery won a shiny gold metal for their Big Surf Lager. These three breweries have barely opened their doors and are already showing that they are among the best in the BC craft beer charge.
The breweries taking home the most hardware from the 2013 BC Beer awards were Parallel 49 Brewing with 8 different awards and Central City Brewers and Distillers with 7. As the teams from each of these breweries got quite the workout climbing up onto the stage it was fantastic to see the rest of the awards passed out to 24 different BC Breweries.
