Nelson Brewing Co. – Hop Good Organic Session IPA Review

New from the Nelson Brewing Company is the Hop Good Organic Session IPA. At 5.2% this is on the light side of the IPA scale but comes with some high expectations. The beer pours an amber colour with three fingers of head that leaves a thin film of lacing on the glass. Through the slowly dispersing head comes a northwest style hop bitterness along with a light caramel and citrus scent. The aroma forecasts a hoppy but very drinkable IPA. The flavour starts off quite light and refreshing; this sensation lasts through the middle of the taste where a caramel sweetness grows before the appearance of hop. A smoothness and spiciness linger just below the surface as well as if some Rye was used in the recipe but alas the side of the bottle does not show this as being true. The finish remains sweetened with the caramel tones but also features a combination of piney and more European hops. The palate is left in a fairly bitter state but that fades relatively quickly preparing the palate for another sip.
