Cariboo Brewing Co. – India Ale Review
As a part of the Pacific Western Brewery the line of Cariboo Beer has strong ties to the university and value-conscious consumers at a mere $7.99 for a 6-pack. As a potential competitor to the Bowen Island IPA I was excited to see this new purple can and to see how it stacks up in the Beer Me BC Bargain Beers category. Pouring this can into a glass it enters with a single finger of head that disperses quickly leaving a thick residue. The colour is golden-amber and the ale smells of a mildly sharp malt. The expected IPA hop-bitterness is lacking on the nose. Upon tasting the beer it is also relatively malty with mild hop bitterness that leaves the palate looking for more. The aftertaste of this beer is a tad sharp and not what would be expected for an IPA or “India Ale”. I would shy away from this beer… even on a budget; There are better, affordable beers out there and this one doesn’t stand up.
Alcohol – 5.5%
Size – 341ml bottles
