Spinnakers Brewery – Mitchell’s Extra Special Bitter Review
Named after the grandfather of BC craft beer the the Spinakers Mitchell’s ESB is an amber coloured ale with a finger or so of head that settles at a moderate pace leaving a thin film on the glass. The smell is floral and citrus with a Northwest style hop defining its source. When this beer first hits your lips the flavour is light and smooth. The lightness shifts quickly though into something quite different. An orange peel style bitter-sweetness builds into the flavour profile with a touch of caramel giving a touch of dark sweetness to the finish. This combined with Northwest and European style hops makes for a fruity, bittersweet citrus infused experience. The Mitchell’s ESB is a little heavy on the caramel notes but is overall a rather enjoyable and traditionally styled Extra Special Bitter.
