The Parallel 49 Brewing Company is one of the newest breweries in BC. Opening their doors this past summer they have to be considered the ‘New Kids on the Beer Block’. But… they know what they are doing. Brewmaster Graham (no known last name) has taken his beer from a basement brewery to the prime real estate of BC Liquor stores in the blink of an eye. As other BC Microbreweries peek over the awareness fence in jealousy, Graham’s beer has made the leap into the BC beer drinker’s heart.
While you will likely find the Unparalleled Pack pack at your local liquor store along with some seasonal options the real deal can only be experienced at the source itself. The Parallel 49 Brewing Company’s brewery is located in East Vancouver on Triumph street at Victoria Dr. This inconspicuous location is the home of what us BC-ites have grown to love and the future home of whatever is up Graham’s sleeve.
Visiting the brewery all the newest and expected beer was on tap for the tasting. One pleasant surprise though was experiencing the Ugly Sweater Milk Stout on Nitro! This already smooth and creamy beer is taken up a notch with the creaminess and turbo-charged nature that happens through a nitrogen tap. While this may not be the case for every visit it was a definite treat to try something known quite well but presented in a new and unique way. I was also able to try a “soon to come” beer that is likely just around the corner. You will have to wait and see for this one though as the beer is still under wraps and being refined to perfection.
If you have an hour and want to see an up-and-comer in the BC beer market stop in and say hi to the crew at Parallel 49.
just finished a bottle of Black Christmas , excellent !! A visit to the brewery would be too good to be true … Nitro ? is that like a visit to the dentist ?
