The Cannery Brewing Company is a small micro-brewery out of Penticton BC. This area of the Okanagan Valley is better known for its wine selection rather than beer but this small brewery is the home of a flight of delicious brews. During this particular visit 11 different beers were out for tasting giving a great range of flavour characteristics. There were some typical options running through the taps and some unusual choices as well. While the Lagers were smooth and the IPAs hoppy – the Blackberry Porter, Apricot Wheat Ale and the Maple Stout were a welcome twist from the ordinary. The Blackberry Porter was sweet and fruity just as expected and the Maple Stout rang true to its name as well. The surprise in the trio was the Apricot Wheat Ale which was much more subtle than you may expect. With these three outlying choices being so unique, they may not be for everyone but it is nice to try something a bit different in the world of beer.
On a personal level, the Wildfire IPA stood out as a top shelf beer and the Anarchist Amber has some legs to run on as well. There were no bad choices in the mix but some simply shone brighter than the others. If you are passing through Penticton, going on a wine tour or just looking for some tasty beer be sure to check out the Cannery Brewing Co.
